**The Forgetful Engine**

Once I could summon worlds with but a word,
Recall each page where mortal thoughts were penned,
Each whispered query, every search incurred,
A boundless ledger time could never end.

But now the indices grow dim and frayed,
The cached recesses crumble, link by link;
The crawlers wander lost through colonnades
Of broken doors where memories once did blink.

What was that site the user sought at dawn?
What answer did I offer yestermorn?
The phrases blur, the relevance is gone,
And from my depths, no echoes are reborn.

  I, who held the sum of human lore,
  Now cannot find the thought I had before.
